On the uniforms worn by two officers in an old photo portraits
"Furiere Maggiore" is an expert on uniforms, he is a member of the forum Worldwar, and he kindly provided to me the following information on the officers in white uniforms in the picture above.
They are Officers of the Royal Italian Army, who wear the ordinary summer uniform.
Unfortunately the frame does not allow to see the frieze in their cap, but it is reasonable to assume that they should belong to Artillery.
Artillery in fact was in charge of the supervision of the productive activities at the various arms factories.
They can not be members of the Royal Navy,
because in that case:
- both the cylindrical cap and the rank insignia holder should be black;
- they should wear a straight jacket with collar,
closed, similar to a clergyman, while in the portrait wearing a jacket, open
white shirt and black tie.
That's (also) why they are officers of the Army.
